KEY PRIORITIES FOR GIBSONS

Governance
I am eager to listen to anyone with concerns and ideas on how to improve our town. I take genuine joy in finding common ground with people. As a leader, I endeavour to govern in a conciliatory manner and ensure everyone feels heard. Rather than being claimed by any single part of the political spectrum, I would much rather be known as fair and approachable. It is equally important to maintain good relations with both the wealthy, those on a tight budget, and everyone in between, serving every member of our community with the same dedication and respect.

Community Life
I want to ensure Gibsons is as attractive a place for family life as possible. We must protect the peaceful, friendly atmosphere that defines Gibsons. To this end, I pledge to build strong relationships with law enforcement and first responders, ensuring Council remains fully informed and ready to act on recommendations that keep our community safe and secure.
Drawing on my extensive experience in the Arts, I would jump at the opportunity to help develop signature cultural events in our town. Building a truly vibrant cultural calendar requires a blend of public, private, and business support. Let us make it as seamless as possible for people to invest in and develop these projects which make Gibsons special.

A Prosperous and Resilient Local Economy
We are a small community operating within much larger economic and geopolitical forces. That is why we must guarantee that every dollar of public revenue is used in the best interest of the public. I want our diverse business community to feel welcome to approach me with ideas to make Gibsons economically stronger, allowing us to build networks based on trust and shared responsibility. We need to focus on projects that elevate our quality of life, while soberly and impartially assessing their risks and rewards. It is a privilege to be entrusted with public funds. Distributing them fairly and honourably is a fundamental duty of this position.

Development
I will work closely with town staff to determine what is truly feasible and sustainable for Gibsons. My approach will balance environmental and economic factors with a strictly non-ideological stance, by building professional relationships that allow me to seek out the objective truth and trust knowledgeable experts. Ultimately, the residents of Gibsons must have a say in how our Town develops. A core responsibility of Council is to maintain transparency, ensuring our community is always provided with the necessary information and assessments.

Environment
When assessing initiatives related to climate change and environmental concerns, my approach will be prudent and practical. Let us focus our efforts on what we can actually control within our own neighbourhoods. We must avoid committing to policies that diminish our economic opportunities in favour of vague objectives with no clear path to achievement. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful place full of responsible, mindful people! Let us keep that at the heart of everything we do.

Infrastructure
Before anything else, we must ensure the basics work. I will support funding projects that keep our community safe and moving forward. A town can quickly lose its charm when building development outpaces basic infrastructure, which is why I will work to ensure any increase in density is strictly matched by expanded capacity for transportation, waste management, and water systems. To achieve this, a key priority is building healthy, collaborative relationships with developers, encouraging them to contribute to positive public amenities outside the immediate scope of their projects. Ultimately, infrastructure needs should be approached as a shared community responsibility rather than a penalty or 'the cost of doing business.

Food Security
Drawing on my experience of operating Sunnycoast Farm and delivering microgreens and seasonal produce to our local restaurants and grocery stores, I will work with local farmers and growers to strengthen food security, showcase our local offerings, reduce barriers to production, and support residents who want to grow their own food with the freedom and resources needed to build greater self-sufficiency.

Youth & Families
I will champion programs aimed at mentoring our youth, developing their skills, and bridging the gap between generations. In hosting a long-running community farm group, I have experienced firsthand that these intergenerational relationships thrive when focused on shared, tangible goals. Moving forward, I intend to partner with the school board and local field experts to create and support alternative learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. We have a solid foundation here, and I am fully committed to amplifying and promoting the programs that already exist in Gibsons.
